ABOUT
Catching "red flag" behaviors early is an essential part of helping children and adolescents before social-emotional difficulties become major roadblocks to success in school and in life. These two easy, reliable screening tools give K–12 education professionals a comprehensive look at a child's social-emotional strengths and risk behaviors, both in school (the School Social Behavior Scales, Second Edition) and at home and in the community (the Home & Community Social Behavior Scales).
Description
The SSBS-2 provides comprehensive ratings of both social skills and antisocial problem behaviors of children and adolescents (K–12) in school settings. The SSBS-2 includes two co-normed scales. The Social Competence scale includes 32 items that measure adaptive, prosocial skills and includes three subscales: Peer Relations, Self Management/Compliance, and Academic Behavior. The Antisocial Behavior scale includes 32 items that measure socially relevant problem behaviors and also includes three subscales: Hostile/Irritable, Antisocial-Aggressive, and Defiant/Disruptive.
These forms are sold in a package of 25.
The SSBS-2 Rating Form is part of SSBS-2 and HCSBS, two easy, reliable tools used in tandem to determine a childs social-emotional strengths and risk behaviors in school (SSBS-2) and at home and in the community (HCSBS). Norm-referenced and standardized, these K–12 screeners help educators identify children with problem behaviors, target classroom interventions, measure the effectiveness of interventions over time, remove barriers to learning, and bring families into the process to provide the best support for children.

Reviews
Review by: Kerri Cox, School Counselor, Cleveland Elementary School, Sioux Falls School District
"An invaluable tool for identifying priorities and setting goals for individual counseling in a school. While I have used several tools to assess student behavior over the years, the SSBS addresses the social competence and antisocial behavior patterns that are crucial for social and academic success."
Review by: Paul Caldarella, Director, Positive Behavior Support Initiative, Brigham-Young University, Provo, UT
"Provides an accurate measure of students' social skills and antisocial behaviors . . . [I am] particularly impressed with the sensitivity of the instrument to intervention efforts in the schools."
Review by: Susan Dennison, Associate Professor, Department of Social Work, University of North Carolina, Greensboro
"Provides so much data on students' strengths and problems . . . I highly recommend this scale for measuring student outcomes."
Review by: Angela Townend, Clinical Program Manager, Catholic Family Services of Durham
"Very helpful in terms of collecting a base measure and doing post group follow up to measure change. The tests are user friendly and we had a great response rate from the teachers."
Review by: Connie Maciejewski, JCH Resources, LLC, Muskegon, MI
"Both scales are quick and easy to complete for teachers and for parents, while giving an accurate assessment of student functioning. They are also quick and easy to score. I don't know what I would do without these scales!"
